Sales Terms & Policies
Last updated: 17 September 2026
These terms apply to purchases, reservations and services provided by Cristjen Lai Atelier.
By completing a purchase, confirming a reservation, accepting a quotation or making a required payment, you agree to the terms applicable to that transaction.
Nothing in these terms limits rights that cannot legally be excluded under Dutch or European consumer law.
Legal business information for Cristjen Lai Atelier is available on the Legal page.
Prices & Payment
Prices are stated in euros (€) and include applicable VAT where required.
Any additional delivery or other mandatory charges will be shown or communicated before an order or reservation is confirmed.
For bespoke services, commissions, consultancy or private chef work, pricing may be provided separately in a written quotation.
A deposit or advance payment may be required for certain reservations or projects.
Cristjen’s Table
Reservations
Cristjen’s Table is offered on selected dates with limited seating.
Submitting an enquiry does not constitute a confirmed reservation.
A reservation is confirmed only once you have received written confirmation and any required deposit has been received.
The menu format, price, date, time and party size will be communicated before confirmation.
Where an evening operates as one table, one menu, guests sharing that table will receive the same menu format unless otherwise agreed.
Deposit
A 50% deposit may be required to secure a reservation.
The deposit forms part of the total price of the dinner.
The remaining balance must be paid according to the instructions provided with your booking confirmation.
Cancellation by the guest
Because ingredients, preparation time and a limited number of seats are committed specifically for each dinner, cancellation charges may apply.
Unless different conditions are stated when booking:
More than 14 days before the reservation
The deposit will normally be refunded, less any reasonable non-recoverable costs already incurred specifically for the booking.
7–14 days before the reservation
Up to 50% of the total reservation value may be retained or charged where reasonably necessary to cover preparation, committed costs and lost capacity.
Less than 7 days before the reservation
Up to the full reservation value may be charged where ingredients, preparation or reserved capacity can no longer reasonably be recovered.
Any cancellation charge will be applied reasonably in light of the circumstances.
If cancelled places can be filled or particular costs can be avoided, this may be taken into account.
Changes to a reservation
Changes to guest numbers or requests to move a reservation should be made as early as possible.
A reduction in guest numbers close to the reservation date may be treated as a partial cancellation.
An increase in guest numbers or change of date is subject to availability and cannot be guaranteed.
Dated dining reservations
Dining, catering and similar services booked for a specific date are generally excluded from the statutory 14-day cooling-off right applicable to many other online purchases.
Cancellation will therefore be governed by the conditions above and any mandatory rights provided by law.
Allergies & dietary requirements
All allergies and relevant dietary requirements must be communicated when making the reservation.
Cristjen Lai Atelier will assess whether they can reasonably and safely be accommodated.
Not every allergy or dietary requirement can necessarily be accommodated, and a reservation may be declined where this cannot be done safely.
Guests are responsible for providing accurate information for themselves and for anyone whose dietary information they submit.
Menus are prepared in a working kitchen where multiple ingredients are present, so complete elimination of cross-contact cannot always be guaranteed.
Seasonal menu changes
Menus are seasonal.
Ingredients or individual dishes may change because of availability, quality, weather, seasonality or other circumstances.
Reasonable substitutions may therefore be made without this being considered cancellation of the dining experience.
Cancellation by Cristjen Lai Atelier
If Cristjen Lai Atelier needs to cancel a confirmed dinner, payments made for the cancelled service will be refunded.
Where possible, an alternative date may also be offered.
Private Chef
Private chef bookings are confirmed individually.
The agreed details may include date and location, number of guests, menu, dietary requirements, staffing, travel, equipment requirements, total price and payment schedule.
A deposit may be required before a date is secured.
Clients must provide accurate information about kitchen facilities, access, guest numbers and dietary requirements.
Additional costs arising from materially different circumstances may be charged where reasonable and agreed.
Consultancy & Creative Services
Consultancy, menu development, recipe development, training, creative direction and related work may be governed by an individual written quotation.
Where a quotation contains terms that differ from this page, the agreed quotation takes precedence for that project.
A deposit or advance payment may be required before work begins.
If a project is cancelled after work has begun, payment may be required for work already completed, agreed hours already performed, materials already purchased, non-cancellable third-party expenses and other reasonable costs directly committed to the project.
Intellectual property
Unless expressly agreed otherwise, copyright and other intellectual-property rights in original work created by Cristjen Lai Atelier remain with Cristjen Lai Atelier.
Payment for creative work does not automatically transfer copyright.
Any licence or usage rights will be those specifically agreed for the relevant project.
Artwork, Ceramics & Objects
Individual character
Many objects offered by Cristjen Lai Atelier are handmade, antique, vintage or one-of-a-kind.
Natural variations in glaze, colour, form, dimensions, texture, firing, brushwork, surface or patina are not necessarily defects.
Older pieces may show signs of age or previous use.
Significant known damage or restoration will be described where reasonably identifiable.
Photography
Every reasonable effort is made to represent items accurately.
Colours and tones may nevertheless appear slightly different depending on lighting, photography and screen settings.
Availability
Original artwork and collected objects may be unique.
Availability is not guaranteed until an order has been confirmed.
If an item unexpectedly becomes unavailable after payment, the amount paid will be refunded.
Online Purchases & Returns
14-day withdrawal right
For eligible goods purchased online by consumers, a statutory withdrawal period will apply where required by law.
In most qualifying cases, you may notify us within 14 days after receiving the item that you wish to withdraw from the purchase.
You must then return the item within the applicable legal return period.
Instructions for exercising this right will be provided where applicable.
Exceptions
The statutory withdrawal right does not apply to certain purchases, including where legally applicable personalised products, custom-made products, commissioned artwork, goods made specifically to your requirements, certain perishable products, catering or dining booked for a specific date, and certain services after performance has begun or been completed in accordance with the applicable legal requirements.
Where an exception applies, this will be made clear before purchase.
Returns
Eligible returned goods should be returned securely and, where reasonably possible, with any original documentation or packaging supplied with the item.
You may be responsible for diminished value caused by handling beyond what is reasonably necessary to inspect the item.
Unless otherwise required by law, the customer bears the direct cost of returning an unwanted item where this has been communicated before purchase.
For valuable or unique objects, tracked and appropriately insured shipping is strongly recommended.
Refunds
Valid refunds will be processed within the period required by law.
Where permitted, a refund may be withheld until the returned item has been received or evidence of return has been provided.
Shipping & Delivery
Estimated dispatch and delivery times will be communicated where possible.
Unless expressly agreed otherwise, stated delivery times are estimates.
Customers are responsible for supplying a complete and accurate delivery address.
International orders
Orders delivered outside the European Union may be subject to customs duties, taxes or handling charges imposed by the destination country.
Unless expressly stated otherwise, these costs are the responsibility of the recipient.
Damage during delivery
If an item arrives damaged, please contact Cristjen Lai Atelier as soon as reasonably possible.
Please keep the item and all packaging and provide photographs showing the item, the damage, external packaging and internal packaging.
This assists with resolving the issue and, where applicable, making a carrier claim.
Your statutory rights remain unaffected.
Faulty or Incorrect Goods
Goods supplied to consumers must meet the requirements of applicable consumer law and conform to what was agreed.
If something you receive is faulty, materially different from its description or otherwise does not conform to the agreement, please contact Cristjen Lai Atelier.
Depending on the circumstances, the appropriate remedy may include repair, replacement, price reduction or refund.
Complaints
If there is a problem with a purchase, reservation or service, please use the Contact page.
Please include enough information for the relevant order, reservation or project to be identified.
We will aim to address complaints fairly and within a reasonable period.
Liability
Cristjen Lai Atelier is responsible where liability arises under applicable law.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot legally be excluded.
To the extent permitted by law, Cristjen Lai Atelier is not responsible for indirect or consequential loss unrelated to the reasonable performance of the agreed service or sale.
Circumstances Beyond Reasonable Control
Cristjen Lai Atelier will not be considered in breach where performance becomes impossible or is materially prevented by circumstances genuinely outside reasonable control.
Depending on the circumstances, an affected booking, project or order may be rescheduled, replaced or refunded as appropriate.
Privacy
Personal information supplied when making a purchase, enquiry or reservation is handled in accordance with the Privacy Policy.
Information concerning allergies and health-related dietary requirements is processed only for purposes connected with the relevant dining reservation, as further described in the Privacy Policy.
Changes
These terms may be updated from time to time.
The version applicable to a transaction is the version provided or made available when that transaction was entered into, unless a later change is expressly agreed.
Governing Law
These terms are governed by Dutch law.
If you are a consumer living elsewhere in the European Union, this does not remove mandatory consumer protections that apply to you under the law of your country of residence.
